Evidence-Based Therapy for Anxiety
Anxiety becomes a problem when fear, worry, physical symptoms, or avoidance begin to impact daily life. It may show up as constant “what if” thinking, panic attacks, difficulty separating, fear of judgment, fear of embarrassment, phobias, repeated health concerns, school refusal, or a life that feels limited because certain situations feel impossible to tolerate.
The Anxiety & OCD Treatment Center provides specialized therapy for children, adolescents, and adults with anxiety. We offer in-person care in Farmington and Westport, Connecticut, plus remote or intensive sessions for those preferring these options.
A practical approach to anxiety treatment
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is the most effective psychological treatment for anxiety. CBT treats anxiety by changing the fearful thoughts and beliefs that drive anxiety using a variety of techniques that vary depending upon the type of anxiety. Most commonly this will involve gradual exposures to unlearn fear as well as techniques to change your beliefs about anxiety. CBT is a highly personalized treatment.
At the Anxiety & OCD Treatment Center, our experienced therapists are specialists in treating anxiety with CBT. Our therapists work collaboratively with you to build and follow a personalized treatment plan. Unlearning fear can be difficult. We work with you to overcome these difficulties so you can get the best possible outcome. Treatment may also draw from ACT, exposure-based methods, mindfulness, DBT skills, SPACE parent work, or trauma-focused approaches, depending on the concern.

Therapy for children, teens, and families
Anxiety affects the whole family. Treatment may involve parents in ways that support the child’s independence without unintentionally reinforcing avoidance. Some families may benefit from SPACE, a parent-based approach that helps caregivers change patterns of accommodation while communicating support and confidence.
When more support is needed
For some conditions and levels of severity, longer or more frequent sessions may be recommended. AOTC offers individualized intensive psychotherapy for appropriate clients. The initial consultation helps determine whether weekly outpatient treatment, intensive work, or another level of care is most suitable.
