Meet Our Westport Therapists

Nicholas Maltby, Ph.D.
Director
Dr. Maltby received his doctorate from the University of Connecticut in 2001. He then completed a two-year post-doctoral fellowship in OCD and anxiety disorders at the Anxiety Disorders Center at the Institute of Living under Dr. David Tolin. While there he conducted numerous research and treatment outcome studies on OCD and anxiety disorders and pioneered the ADCs use of functional MRI to understand OCD, hoarding, and anxiety. His clinical interests include the treatment of OCD, panic, social anxiety, generalized anxiety, and phobias utilizing CBT and ERP. Dr. Maltby is a licensed pilot and has built a specialized practice treating fear of flying. As Chief of his volunteer ambulance service, he is passionate about helping first responders and utilizes EMDR to treat trauma and PTSD. Dr. Maltby has five children and is "slightly off" according to his wife due to his love of riding motorcycles in the dirt. Dr. Maltby is licensed in CT and NY.

Madison Wallace, MA, LCSW
Madison Wallace is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She received her master's degree from the University of South Carolina in 2016. Madison obtained several years of clinical experience between Aurora Pavilion Behavioral Health and the Brattleboro Retreat working with patients undergoing psychiatric hospitalization. When she moved into outpatient therapy, Madison pursued working with exposure treatment. She has since spent many years at the Anxiety and OCD Treatment Center and particularly enjoys exposure work with OCD and Panic. She has received training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). She is licensed in Connecticut and Colorado.

Andrea Nave, MA, LPC, LMHC
Clinical Practice Manager
Andrea Nave is a Licensed Professional Counselor specializing in the treatment of anxiety, OCD, ADHD, mood, and behavior disorders in children, adolescents, and families. She received her Master’s degree from Fordham University and completed specialized clinical training at the Regulation of Emotion & Anxiety Disorder Lab at Yale University, the Compulsive Obsessive and Anxiety Program at Fordham University, the NYU Child Study Center Neuropsychology & Learning Service, the NYU Child Study Center Attention Deficit Hyperactivity & Behavior Disorders Service, Bellevue Hospital Adolescent Inpatient Unit, the Yale Child Study Center Anxiety and Mood Service, the Anxiety Disorders Center at the Institute of Living, and the Anxiety Institute of Greenwich. Andrea is passionate about understanding where anxiety and other emotional or behavioral difficulties are coming from, rather than simply treating the symptoms. She takes a comprehensive approach to treatment and considers how factors such as ADHD, autism, learning differences, emotional regulation, behavior, family dynamics, parenting patterns, and trauma may contribute to or interact with anxiety and other concerns. Her goal is to help children, adolescents, and families understand the underlying patterns contributing to their difficulties and develop effective, evidence-based strategies for change. Andrea specializes in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for anxiety and OCD, including Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), as well as evidence-based treatment for ADHD and parent-based interventions. She has particular expertise in supporting parents of anxious children and children with ADHD, including the use of SPACE (Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions). She also works with families to reduce accommodation, strengthen effective parenting strategies, improve emotional regulation, and break cycles of anxiety and generational trauma. Andrea is an ADHD-Clinical Services Provider and is trauma-informed. Andrea is also the author of the How to Beat Anxiety Blog. She is licensed as an LPC in Connecticut and an LMHC in New York.

Michele Bernal, LPC, LMHC
Michele Bernal, LPC, LMHC received her Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Capella University in 2016 and is licensed in Connecticut and New York. Michele is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor specializing in the treatment of anxiety and OCD in children, adolescents, and young adults. Michele completed advanced training in Cognitive-behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Exposure and Ritual Prevention (ERP) for the treatment of OCD and anxiety disorders through the International OCD Foundation BTTI program (IOCDF) and Mass General Hospital. She also has extensive experience working directly with the parents of anxious children using the SPACE program (Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions). Michele has nine years of experience treating obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), anxiety, phobias, ADHD, executive functioning needs, and autism with comorbid anxiety. For the treatment of OCD, she specializes in Exposure Response and Prevention (ERP) and ICBT in order to address and reduce obsessions and compulsions. She also has training in other research-based therapeutic approaches, including ERP, Solution Focused Therapy, EFT/Tapping, Mindfulness Techniques, and Parent Coaching. Michele has expertise with PANS/PANDAS, Lyme and Tick-Borne Disease, sensory issues, neurodivergence, gender identity and LGBQT+, and adjustment issues.
